Bar Mini is the kind of spot you wander into without a master plan. Sitting along Queen Street East, it fills up quickly, making it an ideal destination for a spontaneous post-dinner nightcap or a cozy landing pad after an afternoon spent thrifting along the east side.
Even on a rainy day, the front windows are pushed wide open — letting the cool breeze roll into a tiny, welcoming room. Designed by Brett Paulin, Bar Mini exudes all the retro warmth of a '70s dinner party, minus the fondue. The aesthetic is built on soft wood, warm lighting and a thoughtful mix of vintage and modern touches. Look closely at the exposed brick, and you might even spot tiny figurines peeking out from the cracks.
The venue partners with local neighbourhood spots to stock the kitchen — including fresh sourdough from the bakery down the road — and rotates its drink menu seasonally, currently serving up a crisp fall lineup. Beyond the seasonal creations, the program features thoughtful non-alcoholic choices alongside a rotating draft list from Rorschach Brewing Co., another east end darling.
On the drink side, the House Martini is officially in the running for my favourite martini in the city. Made with gin, a custom vermouth blend and a side of mini olives, it comes heavily praised. While I was initially skeptical when told these would be the best olives I’ve ever had, I was happily proven wrong on the first bite.
For food, the spread hits all the right salty and briny notes. The pickled egg and house pickles arrive in a vibrant shade of purple, bringing a welcome pop of colour to the table. The burrata, served with seed honey, chili crisp and grilled rye, offers a rich contrast, while the steak tartare toast with chimichurri delivers big, bold flavour.

Tinned fish is having a serious moment across Toronto right now, and Bar Mini does it right. Served alongside seasonal saltines and house pickles, the featured tins from Nice Cans are so good I ended up hunting down a tin at a nearby shop the very next day.
Whether you're dropping in for a polished cocktail or a casual bite, Bar Mini offers a perfectly sized escape on Queen Street East.
Drinks and snacks for two (four cocktails and two plates): around $110, before tax and tip.
