Brianne Cail has been looking at the dessert menu first since she was a kid. Now a Toronto-based writer, she has spent the last decade channelling that exact same energy into documenting the messy, vibrant details of life and culture in the city. As a writer and social coordinator for foodism and escapism, she spends her days dissecting the city’s best menus and hunting down unexpected flavour mashups. The more bizarre the combination? The more she trusts the vision.

She lives in Toronto’s east end, where she is currently on a lifelong quest to find the absolute best tiramisu in the city (a mission she is entirely okay with never ending). A dedicated champion of neighbourhood joints, Brianne’s perfect weekend involves grabbing a cappuccino and a sweet treat at a local cafe, scouting out nearby thrift shops, and heading to The Nose. If it’s a hot summer day, though, an east-end brewery crawl with friends — four-legged ones included — is always on the itinerary.

Growing up in a small town, there weren’t a lot of options to be adventurous on the culinary side, unless you counted her dad’s usually successful kitchen experiments. Now, she’s more than ready to make up for lost time, and Brianne has developed an extra-strong passion for those spots where you can just roll in with ease, leaving with a full stomach and a great story to share.
